Packing Tips for Saving Money
There are many costs associated with
relocation using the services of a self
service mover. Packing is one such cost.
If one packs and stores the items
properly, then this cost could be
reduced to a certain extent. Selection
of cost effective as well as durable
packing supplies is of utmost importance
in this case. There are a few packing
tips mentioned below which can help
reduce your packing costs.
Firstly, do not go for garbage bags as
they do not provide proper protection
for the items. Moreover, they are not
easily pack able on
moving vehicles and
often result in breakages.
Used moving boxes could be very cheap if
one could get hold of them. Ask your
neighbors and friends for these cheap
packing supplies and you would not be
disappointed. Even a few
moving
companies sell these at a discount. Even
if you get these boxes from a grocery or
other local store, try to settle for
boxes of equal sizes. Also, check their
condition to see if the bottom and top
are in place. Retailers sell boxes of
inferior quality and may not be fit for
packing supplies. It is recommended to
find a proper store or a self packing to
get these moving boxes. Boxes of random
sizes would also do provided they are
durable and cost-effective.
Use cloth materials like blankets,
towels and quilts for
packing while
moving to short distances. Though these
items do not provide fool-proof packing,
yet they are a cheap alternate for your
packing supplies. Do not pinch towels
and blankets tightly as they might wear
out or get stained. Over longer
distances, use more durable packing
supplies.
Use packing paper instead of newspaper
to avoid ink stains on the packed items.
Many
local moving companies provide
packing paper at a subsidized cost. It
is one of the cheapest padding materials
available for transportation purposes.
One can also use bubble wraps and
packing peanuts for more delicate items.
Use good quality packing tapes to seal
all your boxes. Though, they are costly
but the benefits far outweigh the
additional cost. It is highly
recommended to use a single band of tape
on the top and around three bands of
tape across the bottom of the boxes. |
